Our Approach

We use proven interventions and treatments such as group and individual therapy, experiential learning, educational support, and community engagement to address the root causes of our residents’ challenges.

History of Pegasus Schools, Inc.

Pegasus Schools, Inc. was founded by Robert Ellis near Lockhart, Texas as a 15-bed residential treatment center on November 17, 1990. Having experienced abuse himself as a child, Mr. Ellis established Pegasus Schools, Inc. to provide troubled children with the care, counseling, and education necessary to rebuild their lives.

Pegasus began with no major endowments, financial backing, or assets other than a dogged determination to make a difference in the lives of as many children as possible. Eventually, incredibly passionate people joined and supported our cause, including CEO Chris Moody, Assistant CEO Nick Sedlachek, Administrators Eric DeHoyos and Roberto Fernendez, and Program and Placement Director Keith Bradbury. Thanks to this team’s efforts and contributions, Pegasus Schools, Inc. has grown to help hundreds of children suffering from the cycle of abuse.

Over the years, we have expanded our facilities and programs to better serve our residents. Our first facility was established in 1990, followed by Camp Pegasus in 1992, Camp Comanche in 1996, and Camp Phoenix in 1999. Since then, all camps have been consolidated, becoming a residential treatment center that caters to over 200 residents.
Pegasus Schools, Inc. collaborates with numerous placement sources, including the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, HHSC, SSCCs, TJJD, Post-Adoption, individual County Juvenile Probation Departments, and also accepts nationwide referrals for our sexual behavior treatment program.
