The Experiential/Outdoor program at Pegasus is second to none. Activities include rock climbing, camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and backpacking. Yearly trips to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico highlight an experiential program in which every resident participates during their stay at Pegasus. Pegasus’ in-house Venture Crew 177 provides the boys opportunities for scouting merit badges emphasizing the outdoors as well as community service. The Pegasus E/O program is headed by A.J. Mercado. A.J. holds the prestigious NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) certification, is a certified EMT Paramedic, a Red Cross certified Life Guard and First Aid Instructor, American Heart Association faculty member as well as being a certified C.P.I. instructor.

In addition to the mountains of northern New Mexico, Pegasus residents experience the wonders of Big Bend, local camping facilities, the lakes of central Texas, and overnight camp outs at the wooded Post 177 headquarters located on the Pegasus property. The boys learn to prepare their own meals, pitch their own tents, clean their own fish, and the fulfillment and gratification of making that last mile up the mountain.
