About Pegasus Pegasus Schools Inc., is a residential treatment center for abused and troubled boys between the ages of 10 and 17. It was founded in 1990 by Robert Ellis in Lockhart, Texas. The first facility opened November 28, 1990 with 15 residents. Three new facilities were added, then consolidated into one campus, Camp Comanche in July 2001 making room for 120 boys. In January 2005, completion of two new dorms and a school building increased the capacity to house 175 residents changing the license from a therapeutic camp to a residential treatment center. Located on a 105 acre ranch three miles south of Lockhart, Texas, Pegasus Schools, Inc. offers an outdoor experience second to none. The rural setting with a spring fed creek offers a peaceful setting for therapy to troubled youth. Mr. Ellis's purpose for Pegasus Schools, Inc. has been to help troubled children become productive, fully functioning members of society and to help break the vicious cycle of child abuse and neglect. The mission of Pegasus Schools, Inc. is to break the cycle of child abuse by providing intervention and redirection through a comprehensive therapeutic milieu for abused, neglected, emotionally disturbed boys between the ages of ten and seventeen. Pegasus Schools, Inc. philosophy: By restoring a child's self worth and dignity while offering a continuum of care, from a residential treatment center through foster placement, Pegasus can take care of children as they grow and mature and their therapeutic needs change. The children progress through the Pegasus system with the same staff members and administration they have come to know and trust. The Pegasus Schools, Inc. program, generally 6 to 15 months, is funded through placement entities such as the Department of Family and Regulatory Services, Children's Protective Services, Juvenile Probation and Private Placements. Pegasus Schools, Inc. continues extending help to children long after state or county funding has run out. In 2005, Pegasus Schools, Inc. continued to grow, providing a safe place for more of America's youth. With the help of caring benefactors, more facilities are being built. A commercial kitchen, three new dormitories, and offices were completed in 2001. A maintenance shop, an educational complex, and two new dorms were completed in 2002. A covered sports complex, softball field, and a 9-hole miniature golf course were completed in 2003. In 2004, two additions to the existing school buildings, a new showering/restroom facility, a chapel, two new dorms, and a new school building were all completed. In 2006, we constructed another new dorm building, school building, and a vocational building. Pegasus continues to strive to make the residents stay here a conducive therapeutic environment, and any improvements needed will be made. The hope of helping the children and the proven successes of changed lives gives Pegasus Schools, Inc. confidence of continued growth and achievement.
